CALL TO WORSHIP (from Psalm 138)

One: I give you thanks, O LORD, with my whole heart; before the gods I sing your praise;

All: I bow down toward your holy temple and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness; for you have exalted your name and your word above everything.

One: On the day I called, you answered me, you increased my strength of soul.

All: Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve me against the wrath of my enemies;

One: you stretch out your hand, and your right hand delivers me.

All: The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O LORD, endures forever.

CALL TO CONFESSION

One: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. In humility and faith let us confess our sin to God.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION (UNISON)

Heavenly Father, you are light of light.  When you shine on us, our shortcomings are revealed - but also, our ability to follow you is enlivened.  Have us yearn for your light so that we can see where we err and have clarity in direction.  Forgive us for seeking darkness where we think we can hide our sin from you.  Forgive our infrequency of confession outside of the walls of the church.  Forgive our lack of faith in the glory of your presence through the Holy Spirit. You have called us not only to follow the path set by your Son, but to bring others to that path by the power of the Holy Spirit.  Remove our fear and instill us with the joy that fills our hearts so full that we are compelled to share your love.  Amen.

One: Now that we have confessed as a body, let us take the truths that have troubled our hearts to God silently.  Let us not be worried about the awkwardness of silence, as we take some time to focus on speaking with our God.

PASSING OF THE PEACE

One: Since God has forgiven us in Christ,
let us forgive one another.
The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
All: And also with you.

One: Let us share signs of peace with one another.

I BELIEVE in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

CALL FOR THE OFFERING

The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it, the world, and those who live in it. Let us return to God the offerings of our life and the gifts of the earth. Let us offer them with joy in our hearts and a deep sense of gratitude.

DOXOLOGY

PRAYER OF DEDICATION (UNISON)

Dear God, when your Son told the fishermen to cast their nets once again, they caught so many fish, the boat nearly sank.  Then Peter fell to his knees; he saw the power of your Son and did not feel worthy.  Yet Jesus said, "Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching people.” May our offerings of time, talent and tithes be used as nets to gather people in your name to do your work in this world and to offer hope, comfort and the great news of salvation.  Amen.
