PRAYER OF APPROACH

PRELUDE

CALL TO WORSHIP (from Psalm 19)

One: The heavens are telling the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims his handiwork.

All: Day to day pours forth speech, and night to night declares knowledge.

One: The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the decrees of the LORD are sure, making wise the simple;

All: the precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is clear, enlightening the eyes;

One: the fear of the LORD is pure, enduring for ever; the ordinances of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.

All: More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold;

sweeter also than honey, and drippings of the honeycomb.

One: Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to you,

All: O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.

*HYMN # 420 “God of Grace and God of Glory”

CALL TO CONFESSION

Nothing can be hidden from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth,
whose wisdom is endless, whose mercy is great. Trusting in God’s grace, let us confess our sin.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION (UNISON)

Heavenly Father, your wisdom cries out to us, and yet we so often

scoff - thinking that our ways are above your ways. You tell us that your decrees are sure and your precepts are right, and yet we so often doubt.

Merciful God, you have given us tongues to proclaim your glory and yet we use them one day for blessing and the next for cursing.

Forgive us when we act as though we are ashamed of you and your Word.

Remind us that it pains you when we do these things. Forgive us for forgetting that we are capable of hurting our relationship with you. Guide us in your light, dear LORD, and grant us your Mercy. Amen.

One: Now that we have confessed as a body, let us take the truths that have troubled our hearts to God silently.  Let us not be worried about the awkwardness of silence, as we take some time to focus on speaking with our God.

SILENT REFLECTION

WORDS OF ASSURANCE

GLORIA PATRI # 579

PASSING OF THE PEACE

One: Since God has forgiven us in Christ,
let us forgive one another.
The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
All: And also with you.

One: Let us share signs of peace with one another.

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH    The Apostles’ Creed

I BELIEVE in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth,
And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by
the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he
rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the
right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to
judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

CALL FOR THE OFFERING

The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it, the world, and those who live in it. Let us return to God the offerings of our life and the gifts of the earth. Let us offer them with joy in our hearts and a deep sense of gratitude.

OFFERTORY

DOXOLOGY

PRAYER OF DEDICATION (UNISON)

Merciful God, your Son asks us what profit is it to gain the whole world, if we lose our eternal life?

He teaches us to deny ourselves and take up our cross and follow Him.  May we give of our time, talents and tithes
in such a way as to show that we have listened to your Word and followed your Son.

As we dedicate these gifts to you, may they be used to glorify
your Holy Name. Amen.
